My kid didn’t have to make dinner tonight. To support one of our local businesses, our community organized a mass delivery order. The package was a 10 inch pizza and bottle of red, white, or sparkling. We all placed online ahead of time, and it was delivered to our park for distribution. The place is called Pizza Getti.  Cute

The pizza is good. I like a bit of crust to chew on, enough so you’re not forced to fold it unless you want to, and this fits the bill. The sauce isn’t too sweet, and the toppings are fresh. I got the veggie.

The wine is a blend I’ve never seen before. It’s half Merlot, and the rest is Cabernet and Sangiovese. Predictably, it’s fruity and not too deep. A little bit acidic, but not too bad. I’m drinking it at room temperature, so it’s not getting an entirely fair shake. But it isn’t bad.

Cheers Oppo.

Man I really want to order food. Getting tired of all the pasta and frozen fish I bought a month ago.

Maybe this weekend. I deserve a treat.

You do. We’ve been saving a lot of money in gas and food and other stuff. We usually eat out a couple times a month, but not lately. We’re way under our usual expenditure rate.

I say order out. Patronize a local business that needs the help and do good while helping yourself.

We have been ordering take out once a week to support our favorite local places. Usually we only eat out once or maybe twice a month. The rest of our expenses have dropped enough, that we can afford to do our part to try and make sure they survive. Although one of our very favorite places is not open at all. I sure hope they reopen when the world reopens!

Yeah, my checking account hasn’t seen this much money in a long time . I’m still nowhere near solvent, but being forced not to spend is quite helpful.

(I make too much to get any of that sweet gub’mint handout, but I don’t save.)

I’m basically assuming all of my favorite local restaurants are going to die, and any that survive, hooray!

(I say that, but I’ll still be terribly sad when I find out I was right.)

Unfortunately none of them are nearby, so I can’t justify the trip to pick up carryout from them. And they’re mostly ice cream stands.

Some of them are actually doing a pretty decent carryout business. They're all pretty close, so worth it. I grew up in a self-employed household, so while I've never done it, I have a lot of sympathy for these businesses. I want them to survive!

My cravings for some of my favorite restaurants are intensifying but I’ve yet to work up the nerve to go to any of them. I did one round of mass grocery shopping before the lockdowns started, then 3 weeks later (last week) I did another. My goal was to last at least 4 weeks before the next round of shopping. We could’ve gone longer before *needing* to shop but it seemed like the right time.

With so much food in the house and plenty of time to cook it, neither I nor my wife has the appetite to make any unnecessary trips to any places where other humans are present.

A couple weeks ago I actually tried to order takeout from one of my favorite Chinese places, which is in walking distance so that means no need to sanitize car surfaces, but their phone was busy. The thought of having to drive to another of my favorite Chinese places, especially when I had all the ingredients to make a right proper noodle dish, was enough to convince me to not bother.

It sucks because I love these restaurants, and want them to survive, but we’re being super vigilant about not exposing ourselves to other people if it’s at all avoidable. But I’ve got plenty of gloves and masks so as this wears on at some point I may venture into one of the favorites for some grub. Maybe I’m being paranoid, but then again, probably not.

An abundance of caution won’t get you in trouble at least.

With food in the house and the knowledge to cook it properly, we have surprisingly not missed going out as much as I thought. But sometimes it would be nice to not have to do it all and clean up after.
